Corning reached this decision following a successful integration of a green laser prototype - small enough for use in mobile consumer electronics -- into a functioning integrated photonics module (IPM(TM)) which is being demonstrated by Microvision (Nasdaq: MVIS), at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nev. this week.
Achieving successful integration of Corning’s green laser prototype into a projection module is an important milestone in the development cycle of this crucial technology that enables portable micro-projection display. Use of Corning’s compact, efficient, high-speed and powerful green laser enables full motion, full color video images at SVGA resolution.
"With the rapid growth and diversity of mobile, hand-held electronic devices there is an exciting opportunity for compact projection technology to enable entirely new viewing experiences," said David Charlton, division vice president and director, New Business Development, Corning Science and Technology. "We are very pleased with the results achieved in applying Corning’AAAAtensive experience in high-power lasers and optical physics to the development of this critical component enabling projection technology."
